“Organizing Beyond Borders for the Tongass National Forest”
This week's talk will be jointly led by representatives from Sitka Conservation Society and Youth for Sustainable Futures.
We will be hosting a virtual environmental activism workshop with activists from Alaska and located all over the country, for the protection of Tongass National Forest, an ecological and aesthetic treasure found in SE Alaska. Currently, the Tongass is at risk of being opened to logging, which would endanger our single largest carbon sink in the US, as well as the traditional use of the forest for food and cultural practices by Alaska Natives and recreational use by millions of tourists every year.
In this workshop, we will cover calling and writing to representatives, writing op-eds, and networking and coalition-building during the pandemic in individual workshops, after an introduction to the Tongass and a brief Q&A session.
Register for the event and learn more on our Facebook page. We would greatly appreciate it if you would share this information with anyone who you think might be interested.
